North Annex A/R & New Office Building

Applied was retained to provide the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering for additions and renovations to the North Annex building and for a new office building for Porter County, with shared spaces for Portage Township.

The existing North Annex building project included a complete interior renovation of the existing 18,900 SF building and an addition of 10,480 SF. Mechanical engineering included replacement of the existing HVAC systems. The new system is comprised of an air-cooled chiller to produce chilled water for building cooling and gas-fired boilers to produce hot water for building heating. It also includes an indoor VAV AHU, VAV terminal units equipped with hot water reheat coils, supply and return air distribution ductwork, and a new DDC control system. Plumbing engineering included a new water service entrance, new restrooms, fixtures, drains, a water heater, and associated cold water, hot water, waste, vent, and storm piping systems. It also included a new gas service and gas piping to gas-fired equipment such as boilers and water heaters. Fire protection engineering included a new fire service entrance and a new wet pipe sprinkler system to serve the entire building. Electrical engineering included a new electrical service entrance, a new main switchboard, new panelboards, and conduit and wire to equipment, lighting, and receptacles. It also included new interior lighting and controls, and exterior lighting and controls for the new parking lot and illuminating the building at night. A new fire alarm system was also provided. Low voltage systems included rough-ins for door access and CCTV security cameras, data and telephone, and audio/visual rough-ins.

The new office building houses the Portage Township Trustee’s Office, Portage Township Food Pantry, and county offices. Mechanical engineering included an HVAC system which consisted of packaged roof top units (RTUs) equipped with gas heat and dx cooling and supply and return air distribution ductwork. Plumbing engineering included a new water service entrance, new restrooms, fixtures, drains, a water heater, and associated cold water, hot water, waste, vent, and storm piping systems. It also included a new gas service and gas piping to gas fired equipment such as RTUs and water heaters. Fire protection engineering included a new fire service entrance and a new wet pipe sprinkler system to serve the entire building. Electrical engineering included a new electrical service entrance, a new main switchboard, new panelboards, and conduit and wire to equipment, lighting, and receptacles.
