Applied provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for the addition and renovations at IU Health Morgan in Martinsville, Indiana.
This project was designed in multiple phases and bid packages. The first bid package included renovations to the 2nd floor to create a Surgery and Endoscopy suite. The second bid package included a major renovation of the emergency department, with facilities remaining open during construction to continue serving the community at all times. In addition, the existing surgery area was remodeled to create a primary care facility. The existing cafeteria, sterile processing, and office was remodeled to create urgent care, pediatrics, and wellness outpatient services. Additional renovations included the pharmacy chemo mixing room, lab, circulation, and registration spaces. A new entrance addition included a 40-foot glass tower.
For MEP systems, AHUs, ductwork, terminal boxes, and piping were replaced, and all new controls were specified. In-floor hot water radiation was utilized to provide comfort to people sitting in the glass tower lobby, while not distracting from the architectural appeal of the space. Additional work included replacing and adding plumbing fixtures and modifications to the fire protection system. Medical gas systems were remodeled and expanded to meet current IUH standards by adding Waste Anesthetic Gas Disposal (WAGD) and carbon dioxide systems to existing remodeled medical air, oxygen, nitrous oxide, and nitrogen systems. The electrical systems and emergency power systems were upgraded with new distribution equipment, new panels, new lighting, and extension of the existing fire alarm system, IT system, and nurse call system.
