Continued growth within the Lafayette Police Department and an increase in space needs for storage and technology led to the need for a new municipal building. Once complete, the new 65,000 SF complex will take up an entire city block.

The new Public Safety Building will serve as the new home for the Lafayette Police Department, providing more room for records, dispatchers, the victim advocate program in coordination with the YWCA, additional evidence storage, and a safe room for people, if needed. It will also house a large community room for 250 people.

The new parking garage will include spaces for 450-500 vehicles. The first floor will be used by police for secure parking, while the other levels will be utilized by city employees and the public. A small civic plaza greenspace will connect the second level of the garage to the community room in the building.

Applied is providing the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems engineering for this new four-story facility and parking garage.

Construction began in the spring of 2021, with completion scheduled for the spring of 2023.
