Continued growth within the Lafayette Police Department and an increase in space needs for storage and technology led to the need for a new municipal building. Now complete, the new 65,000 SF complex takes up an entire city block.
The new Public Safety Building serves as the new home for the Lafayette Police Department, providing more room for records, dispatchers, the victim advocate program in coordination with the YWCA, additional evidence storage, and a safe room for people, if needed. It also houses a large community room for 250 people.
The new parking garage includes spaces for 450-500 vehicles. The first floor is used by police for secure parking, while the other levels are utilized by city employees and the public. A small civic plaza greenspace connects the second level of the garage to the community room in the building.
Applied provided the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems engineering for this new four-story facility and parking garage.
Construction began in the spring of 2021, with completion in the spring of 2023.
